Love

I randomly stumbled across this verse, but I thought it was so beautiful I had to share...

It's from Solomon's Song chapter 8 verse 7 - "Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned."

What a remarkable way to describe love. Something so powerful all the waters of the earth cannot quench it, so strong it can never be drowned or forgotten, and worth more than anything else anyone could achieve. Wow.

That's what I got from this anyways...

Let me know what you think.

  1. I think that's a great passage that exemplifies the power of love. The very love that God has for us. Not even the great power of the water, that formed the Grand Canyon, could contend with it. Awesome post!! Let us try to love ourselves, our neighbors and God simultaneously!

  2. It's amazing to understand the context of this passage. The Song of Songs is a book totally dedicated to Solomon and his wife. The deep passion they felt for one another. What seamed to be an orderly love. The woman repeats the following at least twice in the book: "daughters of Jerusalem, promise me by the gazelles that you will not awaken feelings of love until it is ready." The verse mentioned here is one of the final ones in the book as a conclussion. Just like this man and this woman loved each other so should Jesus and the Church. Like a man and a woman passionately in love who'se love cannot be quenched by natural forces. It's eternal in Christ... ergo, it is supernatural.
